Leatherman MUT
Multitasker Series 2

It seems hard to fathom, but with all the multitools in the hands of service members, none had been designed specifically for the rifleman. Gerber, SOG, Leatherman each sailed along, passing right by this huge gap in the market.

Upstart company Multitasker Tools presaged the category and brought the original gun multitool to market in 2009. The AR Multitasker was a hit in the black gun community. It gained a cult following and, predictably, attracted the attention of the multitool establishment.

The category is growing with the release of Leatherman's Military Utility Tool, in stores this month. Its features include a bolt override tool, brass carbon scraper and a pin punch.

The AR Multitasker Series 2 is a great tool for the "gun guy," while the MUT strikes the perfect balance between field and gun tools for battlefield service.

Over the past few months, GearScout used and passed around prototypes of both tools. Both were abused by infantrymen in Afghanistan.
