New general officer assignments announced

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey on Monday announced the following general officer assignments:

Maj. Gen. William F. Grimsley, deputy commanding general, III Corps and Fort Hood, Fort Hood, Texas, to chief of staff, U.S. Strategic Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.

Maj. Gen. Francis G. Mahon, deputy, test and assessment, Missile Defense Agency, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., to director, J-5, U.S. Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Col.

Maj. Gen. Gary S. Patton, deputy commander, Army, Combined Security Transition Command Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, to director, force development, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, U.S. Army, Washington.

Maj. Gen. Thomas W. Spoehr, director, force development, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C., to deputy commander (support), U.S. Forces-Iraq, Operation New Dawn, Iraq.

Brig. Gen. William E. Rapp, who has been selected for the rank of major general, commandant of cadets, U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., to deputy commander support, U.S. Forces Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.

Brig. Gen. Thomas A. Harvey, commanding general, 19th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), Eighth U.S. Army, to deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island, Ill.

Brig. Gen. John M. Murray, director, Joint Center for Operational Analysis-Lessons Learned, U.S Joint Forces Command, Suffolk, Va., to assistant deputy director for joint training, J-7, The Joint Staff, Suffolk, Va.

Brig. Gen. Warren E. Phipps Jr., deputy commanding general (support), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault)/Combined Joint Task Force-101, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan, to deputy director for regional operations, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington.

Brig. Gen. Kelly J. Thomas, assistant division commander (support), 2d Infantry Division, Eighth U.S. Army, Korea, to assistant commander, police development, Combined Security Transition Command Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.

Col. Mark S. Inch, who has been selected to rank of brigadier general, deputy provost marshal general/commander, Army Corrections Command, Office of the Provost Marshal General, Washington, D.C., to commandant, U.S. Army Military Police School/deputy commanding general, joint training and leader development, U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center of Excellence, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.
