The Defense Department says two North Carolina-based soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Thursday. It announced the casualties separately, but did not say whether the deaths were related.
• Pfc. Johnathon F. Davis, 20, of Griffin, Ga., died in Kandahar province of wounds suffered from enemy small arms fire.
• Spc. David W. Taylor, 20, of Dixon, Ky., also died in Kandahar province. The military did not offer further details.
Both soldiers were based out of Fort Bragg. Davis was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. Taylor was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
