Changes begin for in/out calls, bonuses

A new menu of retention bonuses and a revamped listing of reclassification "in/out" calls went into effect Sunday.

The Army signaled these changes in June because personnel policies require that soldiers be notified one month in advance of when Selective Re-enlistment Bonus and Bonus Extension and Retraining, or BEAR, rates will change.

The in/out calls are helpful to soldiers who want to change their military occupational specialty in conjunction with re-enlistment.

The calls indicate if an MOS is open or closed to reclassification.

Under Phase II of the 2012 retention program, the only soldiers eligible to re-enlist in the Regular Army are those whose current enlistments expire in fiscal 2013.

Specifically, the re-enlistment window is open to soldiers with expiration of term of service dates of Oct. 1, 2012, through Sept. 30, 2013.
