FORT BRAGG, N.C. The 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg has a new commander.

Maj. Gen. John W. Nicholson Jr. took command during a ceremony Thursday.

Nicholson said the division is ready to resume its traditional role as the Army's global response force. Brigades from the division have been deployed repeatedly in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11.

This is the first time the entire division has been at Fort Bragg since 2010.

Nicholson replaces Maj. Gen. James L. Huggins. President Obama has nominated Huggins for his third star and to serve as the Army's deputy chief of staff for operations at the Pentagon.
