Three command selection boards that meet this fall will consider colonels and promotable lieutenant colonels of the Army Competitive Category for brigade command and key billet positions that become vacant in fiscal 2014.
Two additional boards, one for Army Medical Department officers and another for Army Acquisition Corps officers, will meet in January. Zones of consideration and other details for the January boards have not yet been announced.
The online My Board File record review system will open Oct. 26 and close Dec. 5. The Command Designation Preference application will open Nov. 16 and close Dec. 2. Officer evaluation reports must be received at Human Resources Command by Nov. 1. The required "thru date" for Code 9 complete-the-record reports is Sept. 1, 2012.
Officers selected by these boards should expect to serve in command or key billet positions for 24 months, or as needed to meet operational requirements.
Completion of senior service college is a requirement for colonel-level command. This means selectees who have not completed school will be placed in command or a key billet assignment after graduation from a senior service college-level course or fellowship.
Army policy also limits officers to four years of brigade-level centralized selection list eligibility after promotion to colonel. If an officer elects not to compete, or is otherwise ineligible during a particular year, the eligibility window is not extended.
Officers who do want to compete for a command or key billet category for which they are eligible must opt out using the command preference designator or by contacting their assignment officer.
