SAN ANTONIO A former Army National Guard recruiter has pleaded guilty for his role in a fraud scheme to collect military recruiting bonuses that cost the National Guard Bureau nearly $100,000.

Staff Sgt. Jermaine Britt pleaded guilty in San Antonio federal court Friday to three counts, including bribery and obstruction of justice.

Prosecutors say the 39-year-old admitted that between May 2008 and April 2011 he and other recruiters obtained the names and Social Security numbers of potential soldiers. Authorities say Britt and the others used the information to falsely claim they had recruited the potential soldiers.

Britt faces up to 20 years in prison for the most serious charge when sentenced Feb. 8.

Britt, from Richmond, Texas near Houston, is the tenth defendant charged in the investigation to plead guilty.
