Some Army Reserve officers can apply for accession into the Army Acquisition Corps and designation in Functional Area 51 (Research, Development and Acquisition).

The AAC accessions program applies to members of the Troop Program Unit, Individual Mobilization Augmentee and Individual Ready Reserve programs.

It does not apply to Army Reserve officers assigned to the Active Guard and Reserve, or officers branched to the Judge Advocate General's Corps, Chaplain Corps or Medical Service Corps.

The following officers are eligible to apply for transfer to the Army's acquisition workforce:

TPU, IMA and IRR captains with no less than four years' time in grade, or majors with no more than two years in grade as an O-4.

Applicants must be graduates of a Captain Career Course.

Applicants must have completed at least 12 months in a key developmental assignment for their branch, or are serving in such an assignment.

At least 24 hours of business-related college education credits are required for accession into specialty 51C (contract and industrial management), and for assignment to positions coded for 51A (systems development).

Business-related courses include accounting, business, finance, contracts, economics, industrial management, law, marketing, organization and management, purchasing and quantitative methods.

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, have a secret clearance or higher at the time of application and be willing to undergo a financial background check.

The application window for the accessions program will close Jan. 24.

Selections will be made by a panel that convenes March 1.
