COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Authorities are looking for a 17-year-old in the shooting deaths of a Fort Carson soldier and his wife, who were expecting their first child.

Colorado Springs police said Thursday that the husband and his pregnant wife were shot and killed Monday when they surprised a burglar in their Colorado Springs home. Police warned that the teenager is considered armed and dangerous.

David Dunlap, a combat veteran, and his wife, Whitney Butler, were newlyweds who had moved into their home in October.

A friend told the Colorado Springs Gazette that Butler was three months pregnant. The coroner's office would not confirm that.

"Everybody's just heartbroken, devastated," said a friend of Dunlap's, who didn't want to be identified. "He was always just a go getter, a hard worker. Always led you in the right direction."

The man said he was deployed with Dunlap in Germany in 2006.

Police were initially called to the neighborhood to investigate reports of gunfire on Monday morning. They discovered Butler and Dunlap's bodies just after noon and began searching the street with tracking dogs.

A friend, Colin Schwalm, described Dunlap as a man who loved sports, especially softball.

The Army said Dunlap was a staff sergeant in the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Carson outside Colorado Springs. His specialty was repairing armament, electrical and avionic systems on Apache helicopters. He joined the Army in 2003 and arrived at Fort Carson in November.

He deployed to Iraq in 2007-08.
