WAKEFIELD, N.H. — New Hampshire police say a National Guardsman made up a story that he was attacked while trying to help someone three weeks ago to avoid a drill.
Michael Paquette had reported that he was attacked in Wakefield after he stopped to help a man change a tire. Paquette said he was knocked unconscious for an hour.
But now Wakefield police say Paquette made up the story to avoid a weekend drill.
Paquette had gone to the hospital with head injuries.
Police say he has acknowledged that he injured himself intentionally, by hitting himself in the head with a piece of ice.
