The zone of consideration for the sergeant first class promotion selection boards that convened Monday at Fort Knox, Ky., has been expanded to include certain categories of senior staff sergeants.
Boards affected by the revised criteria are:
• The fiscal 2013 active-component SFC board that convened Monday, and is tentatively slated to adjourn March 8.
• The fiscal 20`13 Active Guard and Reserve (Army Reserve) SFC board that convened Monday, and is tentatively scheduled to adjourn Feb. 15.
Additional missions for the boards include a retention review for certain soldiers under the Qualitative Service Program, and stand-by advisory board duty as required.
In messages issued Monday by the Human Resources Command, the basic active service date criteria for both promotion boards is expanded to include staff sergeants with a retention control point of 23 years of service.
These are soldiers who were grandfathered as a result of the 2011 policy change that reduced the RCP for staff sergeant from 23 to 20 years of active service.
As a result of today's announcement, Regular Army staff sergeants with basic active service dates of Feb. 5, 1991 to Feb. 4, 1994, and who are otherwise qualified, are now eligible for promotion consideration.
The expanded zone includes Army Reserve staff sergeants of the Active Guard and Reserve with basic dates of Feb. 5, 1991, and later.
Except for the BASD change, all other criteria previously established for these boards remain in effect, as follows:
Regular Army: The primary zone includes staff sergeants with dates of rank of Feb. 4, 2004, and earlier, while the secondary zone includes E6s with dates of rank of Feb. 5, 2009 through Feb. 5, 2010.
Active Guard and Reserve: The primary zone includes staff sergeants with dates of rank of Feb. 1, 2009, and earlier. The secondary zone includes E6s with dates of rank of Feb. 2, 2009 through Feb. 5, 2010.
NCO Evaluation Reports prepared on soldiers affected by the basic date changes must be received at the Human Resources Command by Feb. 12.
The online My Board File record review system will remain open for these soldiers until Feb. 13.
