Soldier on leave dies in Mich. crash

BANGOR TOWNSHIP, MICH. — Authorities said a soldier who was on leave and awaiting deployment to Afghanistan died in a single-vehicle crash in Bay County.

WSGW-AM and reported that 20-year-old Robert Rambo of Bay County died following Sunday’s crash in Bangor Township, about 90 miles northwest of Detroit. Authorities said the driver and several other passengers were hospitalized in critical but stable condition Monday.

The sheriff’s department said Rambo, the front seat passenger, was stationed in Germany ahead of deployment. Authorities said Rambo’s wife was among the injured.

The vehicle ran off the road about 12:40 a.m., struck a culvert and flipped several times. The crash is under investigation.
