The Defense Department on Thursday announced the death of a soldier in Qatar.
1st Sgt. Tracy L. Stapley, 44, of Clearfield, Utah, died Wednesday at Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar, in a non-combat related incident, the department said in a news release. The incident is under investigation, the release said.
He was assigned to the 308th Medical Logistics Company, Saint George, Utah.
The Associated Press reported that the soldier’s father, Elwin Stapley, told the Deseret News his son was a good athlete and student who served a mission in Argentina for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The newspaper reported Stapley was married and had a son who is at West Point, the AP said.
