DALEVILLE, ALA. — The Army says a soldier has been found dead at Fort Rucker in southeast Alabama after disappearing during a navigation training exercise earlier this week.
AL.com reported Friday the soldier has been identified as Darrell R. McNealy, a 40-year-old student at the warrant officer training school at Fort Rucker.
Officials tell al.com that McNealy started a three-hour land navigation course around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday and a search party was formed when he failed to report at a checkpoint. Some 100 people, assisted by bloodhounds and helicopters, searched for McNealy, who was found dead Thursday morning.
AL.com says McNealy served as a platoon sergeant with the 4-58th Airfield Operations Battalion at Camp Humphrey, South Korea.
The military says foul play isn’t suspected and cause of death is pending an autopsy.
