SOUTH WINDSOR, CONN. — A Connecticut man who served in the Army during World War II is receiving medals decades after he completed his service.
The wife of Runo Palmquist is to receive the eight medals on his behalf from U.S. Rep. John Larson at a ceremony Friday in South Windsor. The medals include the Bronze Star and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
Palmquist, who was born in Sweden, enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1943. He served in battles in southern France and elsewhere in Europe.
The Army’s Human Resources Command annually replaces hundreds of lost service medals.
