MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. — Federal prosecutors are planning to drop their case against a woman who was accused of stealing a bag of meatballs from the West Point mess hall.
Estelle Casimir was told Friday that the charges will go away if she stays out of trouble for six months.
Casimir had been accused of taking the frozen meatballs on Jan. 30, just before they were to be served to the cadets. She worked for Watson Services, which handles food services at the U.S. Military Academy.
Defense attorney Michael Ferraro argued that the meatballs had been thrown out and Casimir was just taking out the garbage. He said she refused to plead guilty to anything.
He said Casimir, who lives in Newburgh, was suspended but is hoping to get her job back.
