DoD IDs two soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Two soldiers assigned to White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, died Aug. 23 when their unit was attacked in Afghanistan, the Defense Department announced Sunday.

Spc. Kenneth Clifford Alvarez, 23, of Santa Maria, Calif., and Pvt. Jonathon Michael Dean Hostetter, 20, of Humphreys, Mo., died in Haft Asiab after their unit was attacked with an improvised explosive device during combat operations, according to a news release.

Both were assigned to 2nd Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade, White Sands Missile Range, the release said.

Further information was not released.
