Drum soldier killed in Afghanistan

The Defense Department on Friday identified a soldier killed earlier this week in Afghanistan.

Michael H. Ollis, 24, of Staten Island, N.Y., died Wednesday in Ghazni Province after insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device, small arms and indirect fire, the DoD said in a news release.

Ollis was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light), Fort Drum, N.Y., the release said.

Further details were not released.
