HOUSTON — Four more current and former Army National Guard soldiers had pleaded guilty to roles in bribery and fraud relating to recruitment.
The four bring to 15 the number of Army National Guard soldiers and recruiters convicted in a scheme to obtain thousands of dollars in bonuses awarded for signing new recruits. The charges to which they’ve pleaded range from conspiracy and bribery to witness tampering and wire fraud.
All of those who have entered guilty pleas have worked in the Houston and San Antonio areas. They are among 25 who have been charged so far in the investigation.
Authorities say the defendants targeted a recruiting program that offered up to $3,000 in bonuses to soldiers who referred others to join the Guard.
