HONOLULU — An Army lieutenant ran a mile while wearing a bomb disposal suit weighing more than 75 pounds in an attempt to set a new world record.
The 8th Theater Sustainment Command said 1st Lt. Ashley Sorensen ran the mile in 11 minutes, 6 seconds on Monday. She beat the existing record for running a mile in the bomb disposal suit by more than two minutes.
Sorensen is now waiting for the Guinness Book of World Records to review and validate her time.
She says its important for explosive ordnance disposal soldiers to be able to perform while working and sweating in the suit.
Sorensen is the executive officer of the 303rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Battalion at Schofield Barracks.
The 2010 West Point graduate spent a year-and-a-half training for the run.
