Sailors looking to access personnel records could be out of luck as security upgrades on the Navy’s network have taken most of BUPERS On-Line offline.
Among the highlights:
■ Sailors aren’t able to request a CD containing their Electronic Official Military Personnel File via the website during the outage.
■ Supervisors aren’t able to review their sailors’ records via OMPF-Command View; instructions are given for how to fill out written requests.
■ Sailors reviewing their records prior to a board — seeking access to their officer or enlisted summary record, performance summary record or officer data card, for example — aren’t able to do so online. They’re asked to contact NPC at 866-827-5672 for assistance.
■ The Military Locator System, which allows a user to search for individuals using their name, unit identification code or Social Security number, is offline.
■ The outage will continue until the upgrades are finished, and “a firm completion date has not been determined at this time.”
Navy officials said in a Sept. 20 news release that networkwide outages related to security updates could last “over the coming weeks.” A spokesman with Fleet Cyber Command would not say when the upgrades would end and would not offer any specific systems that would go offline, citing security concerns.
“We do not discuss the details of network operations for security reasons,” the Fleet Cyber Command spokesman said via email.
