Two soldiers who were killed after their Humvee fell into a river near the Rodriguez Live Fire Complex in South Korea Nov. 21 have been identified by the Army.
Killed were Maj. Evans Hanson, 35, of Sugarland, Texas, and Pfc. Justin Adams, 21, of North Redington, Fla.
Both soldiers were with 1st Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, out of Camp Hovey, the Army said.
The soldiers were driving to a training area to assess it for future training when the Humvee went into the water, the news release said. Their unit lost contact with the soldiers on Nov. 21 and began a search effort that lasted into the next morning.
“The Division is saddened at the loss of these brave soldiers serving here in Korea,” said Maj. Gen. Thomas S. Vandal, the commander of the 2nd ID, in a statement released after the soldiers were found. “We were all holding on to the hope that these soldiers would be found alive. Our condolences go out to their families and loved ones.”
Their Humvee was recovered from the river Nov. 23, an Army official confirmed. The incident is under investigation, the Army reported.
