CLARKSVILLE, TENN. — An Army captain has been charged in connection with another soldier who was found dead from a hit-and-run wreck Saturday morning on Tylertown Road.

David Elliot, 26, who gave a Columbus, Ohio, address, was booked into Montgomery County Jail on Saturday on a charge of vehicular homicide, according to a Clarksville Police Department news release. Jail records show he also was charged with DUI, driving on a revoked license and failure to immediately notify authorities of a motor vehicle accident.

The release also identified the victim as 21-year-old Pfc. Austin McReynolds, who investigators say had been at O’Connors Irish Pub and Grill, 1198 Tylertown Road, and was walking east on Tylertown Road for an unknown reason. The incident occurred between 2:30 and 2:45 a.m., the release said.

A person walking to work on Tylertown near Roscommon Way found McReynolds dead on the side of the road at about 5:10 a.m., according to a release from CPD spokeswoman Natalie Hall.

Responding officers determined the soldier had been hit by a vehicle that left the scene. They searched the area and found a suspicious 2008 Ford Expedition, at 844 Cindy Jo Ct., with fresh front-end damage consistent with a collision with a pedestrian, Hall said in a follow-up release.

Elliott was identified as the vehicle owner, and he admitted to drinking alcoholic beverages, also at O’Connors, before driving his vehicle on Tylertown Road, where he told police he struck a deer.

Hall said in the release the investigation is continuing.

Anyone who may have information about the incident should call Officer Larry Harris at 931-614-5649 or the Crime Stopper TIPS hotline at 931-645-TIPS (8477).
