FORT JACKSON, S.C. — The Army’s largest training installation is cancelling its traditional basic combat training graduation for its latest class of 800 new soldiers.

Army spokesman Patrick Jones says Thursday’s event was prevented due to the ongoing snow and ice storm that has afflicted the Southeast.

Only essential personnel were required to report to the base. It is the Army’s largest because it puts about 60,000 soldiers through basic and advanced training every year.

Soldiers in good standing are being allowed to travel on to their advanced training posts either by government transportation or with family members who came to attend the graduation.
