The head of 5th Fleet has been nominated by President Obama for reappointment to vice admiral and to a new post as deputy chief of naval operations for operations, plans and strategy, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced Tuesday.
Before taking over at 5th Fleet, Vice Adm. John Miller served as the special assistant to the deputy CNO position he’s been nominated to fill, according to his online bio.
The day after announcing Miller’s nomination, the Defense Department announced the following 10 flag-officer assignments:
■ Rear Adm. John Aquilino will serve as deputy chief of staff for operations, training and readiness, N3/N7, Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Aquilino previously served as commander, Carrier Strike Group 2, Norfolk, Va.
■ Rear Adm. George Ballance will serve as commander, Naval Forces Southern Command/commander, 4th Fleet, Mayport, Fla. Ballance is serving as director, theater engagement, J-7, U.S. Southern Command, Doral, Fla.
■ Rear Adm. Kevin Scott will serve as vice director for joint force development (joint and coalition warfighting), Joint Staff, Suffolk, Va. Scott is serving as director, joint fleet operations, N3/N5, Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk.
■ Rear Adm. Elaine Wagner will serve as deputy chief, wounded, ill, and injured, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Falls Church, Va. Wagner is serving as commander, Navy Medicine East/commander, Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Va.
■ Rear Adm. Rebecca J. McCormick-Boyle, who has been selected for her second star, will serve as commandant, Medical Education Training Campus/Director of Medical Education and Training, M7, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. McCormick-Boyle is serving as chief of staff, BUMED, Falls Church.
■ Rear Adm. Martha Herb will serve as director, Inter-American Defense College, Washington, D.C. Herb is serving as Reserve deputy commander, Navy Installations Command, Washington.
■ Rear Adm. Kenneth Iverson will serve as deputy chief of medical operations, M3/5, BUMED, Falls Church. Iverson is serving as director, Medical Education and Training, M7, BUMED, Falls Church.
■ Rear Adm. Terry Moulton will serve as commander, Navy Medicine East/commander, Naval Medical Center/director, Medical Service Corps, Portsmouth. Moulton is serving as deputy chief, medical operations, M3/5, BUMED/director, Medical Service Corps, Falls Church, Va.
■ Rear Adm. David Pimpo will serve as commander, Naval Supply Systems Command Weapon Systems Support, Philadelphia. Pimpo is serving as commander, Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime, Columbus, Ohio.
■ Rear Adm. Donald Singleton will serve as director of logistics (J-4), U.S. European Command, Stuttgart, Germany. Singleton is serving as deputy chief of staff for logistics, fleet supply and ordnance, N4, commander, Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor.
