A judge at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland has sentenced a former military training instructor who had a sexual relationship with a basic training graduate to 60 days’ hard labor and a reprimand.

Tech. Sgt. Tamisha Rutledge, who is assigned to Air Force Space Command, pleaded guilty to having an unprofessional relationship with one of her former recruits who had been eliminated from technical training but was not yet discharged from the Air Force, said 1st Lt. Samantha Degnan, a base spokeswoman.

Rutledge is one of 35 former MTIs accused in a sexual misconduct scandal at basic since the summer of 2011. She is only the second woman to be court-martialed in the series of cases.

Former Staff Sgt. Emily Allen was convicted in May of four unprofessional relationships with technical trainees. Charges included partying with two females, having sex with one male trainee and trying to start a sexual relationship with another male trainee. She was sentenced to three months’ confinement and reduction to senior airman.

In addition to hard labor and a reprimand, Rutledge must forfeit $300 a month for two months, Degnan said in an email.
