FORT SILL, OKLA. — Fort Sill authorities have found and identified a soldier who went missing while kayaking on post.

The body of 28-year-old Pfc. Patrick Washington was recovered around 4 p.m. Monday from the Lake Elmer Thomas Recreation Area.

Washington was reported missing Saturday after a kayak he was riding in flipped. Witnesses told investigators that one soldier was able to make it to shore while the other soldier went under and never resurfaced.

Fort Sill officials say the incident happened in an area of the lake thatís about 60 to 100 feet deep. Divers from the Lawton Police Department assisted post officials in the search, as did the Wichita Falls Police Department in Texas and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

No further information is available as the accident is still under investigation.
