President Obama will deliver a statement after meeting with Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki this morning amid calls for Shinseki to resign over a widening scandal over veterans who have died while waiting for treatment..

Obama is scheduled to meet with Shinseki at 10 a.m. along with Rob Nabors, the White House deputy chief of staff who has been assigned to the VA to fix issues that have been reported in the press.

Since the Arizona Republic reported in April that as many as 40 veterans may have died while waiting for care at a VA facility in Phoenix, other media outlets have reported about similar problems at other VA hospitals. On Tuesday, the VA's Inspector General's office announced that the number of VA facilities being investigated for falsified records and treatment delayed has doubled to 26, according to the Associated Press.

In 2010, a VA official sent a detailed memo to health directors that called for "immediate action" to review scheduling practices and eliminate "inappropriate" strategies.?
