Sgt. Gene Robert Brandes Jr. ()
The Army has identified the soldier who was found unresponsive in his barracks room Tuesday at Fort Hood, Texas.
Sgt. Gene Robert Brandes Jr., 28, was assigned to 4th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.
The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation, but foul play is not suspected, Fort Hood officials said.
Brandes, whose home of record is Oakridge, New Jersey, joined the Army in August 2006 as a Patriot Launching Station enhanced operator/maintainer.
He deployed to Iraq from August 2007 to November 2008. In April 2010, he deployed for a year in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Brandes’ awards and decorations include three Army Commendation Medals, three Army Achievement Medals, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, and the Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign star.
