Secretary of the Army John McHugh has authorized the award of the Meritorious Unit Commendation to a number of active and Reserve units for meritorious performance and service while deployed to the Middle East combat theater for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The Meritorious Unit Commendation ranks third in precedence behind the Presidential Unit Citation and Valorous Unit Award. Qualified soldiers can wear the red and gold ribbon above the right pocket of the Army Service Uniform.
Among the recipients are members of 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, one of the last units out of Iraq.
