GURNEE, ILL. — An Illinois Tollway bridge over Interstate 94 near Gurnee is being named this week for a distinguished Vietnam War veteran from the area.

The Illinois Tollway is unveiling special signs Wednesday. The signs at the Grand Avenue overpass honor Medal of Honor recipient Allen J. Lynch of Gurnee.

The 68-year-old Army veteran received the nationís highest military honor for carrying three wounded comrades to safety while under fire in December of 1967. Fewer than 3,500 men and women have received the Medal of Honor.

Lynch is being honored for his ongoing advocacy on behalf of military veterans.
