PUYALLUP, WASH. — Army Chief Warrant Officer Milam Jeans had no problem moving his wife and children from Germany to a new post in Alaska this summer.

But the same cannot be said for one of the family’s cars.

“It’s probably the most aggravating thing I’ve had to do,” said Jeans.

On Monday he got an email from Auto Transport Alaska saying the company was filing for bankruptcy.

That company was supposed to bring his wife’s BMW on a ferry from Washington state to Alaska.

Instead the car is now locked up in the lot of Chance Towing in Puyallup.

When the staff at Chance Towing told him on the phone Tuesday they didn’t have the authority to hand over his car, Jeans bought a one-way airplane ticket to bring his ownership paperwork to the tow yard in person.

That plan did not work.

A staff member, who would not identify himself, told Jeans Auto Transport Alaska still has possession of the car.

Jeans has not been able to reach anyone from the company to give the tow yard authority to release the vehicle to him.

Jeans hopes to get a lawyer from Joint Base Lewis-McChord to help him out, but he’s not sure how long he can stay in the area.

“I don’t have much time,” said Jeans, who expects to be deployed to Afghanistan within the next month.”
