Global real estate firm recruits veterans

By Amanda Miller - Staff writer

A worldwide provider of commercial real estate services has created a hiring program to recruit more veterans.

Princeton, N.J.-based NAI Global specializes in commercial real estate portfolio management, property management, valuations, dispositions and leasing. The company works with local partners to provide services ranging from “streamlining a business unit, to extracting value from your portfolio, to more efficient management of your projects and leases worldwide,” according to the company’s Web site.

On the site you’ll find case studies, including the $65 million sale of a historic hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, and a $17.5 million land lead for a condo high-rise near the central business district of Bangkok, Thailand.

NAI Global and member firms employ about 5,000 people worldwide.

The company is making a special effort to hire veterans, said Gerald C. Finn, NAI Global’s chairman.

Finn sees the program as a win-win. His company puts veterans to work, and they contribute military skills such as leadership and responsibility.

No experience in real estate is required: NAI Global is prepared to train. Applicants should, however, expect aptitude testing. Those who want to work in sales, for example, will complete a psychological evaluation to determine whether they’re a sales type.

“Our sales people are commissioned. If they’re good, it’s a very high-paying field,” Finn said.

New employees could work as office managers, building managers and clerk-typists among the occupations within NAI Global and its members.

“A veteran or military person will be talked to. We’ll ask them where they want to be — geographically,” Finn said. “We’re a membership organization. We’ll contact our members in that area and work with them to arrange a meeting.”
