SPOUSE PROTECTION UNFAIR
While I believe that state community property laws are dysfunctional and need to be changed, I don’t believe that the battle should be limited only to state community property laws. There are numerous aspects of the Uniform Services Former Spouses Protection Act that are extremely unfair to military service members, and those issues need to be addressed.

DON’T DEPLOY AS A COUPLE
The best thing to do (in the interest of the military) is to not deploy a married couple together. That kind of thing is just distracting [to] the mission.
Furthermore, we aren’t deployed overseas to sleep with anyone. We’re there to accomplish a mission and redeploy with the same number of soldiers you originally left with. That is it.

GAYS WILL SERVE OPENLY
Like it or not, there are probably gays currently serving in your unit right now. I don’t support “don’t ask, don’t tell,” but it is only a matter of time until gays are going to be able to serve openly.
The current president has bigger problems right now to worry about. Once the economy gets straightened out, I will not be surprised when this issue comes to the forefront. We in the military will just have to accept the fact gays will be openly serving beside us.

PAY ONLINE STUDENTS BAH
[Congress was] worried veterans might manipulate the system for financial gain, so they took away the eligibility of online students to receive a housing allowance. Does anyone see the irony in Congress worrying about preventing manipulation of the system for monetary gain?
Basically, Congress said it doesn’t care whether or not the funds are needed, it is going to take it away from everyone because a select few might manipulate the system. Under this mentality, all benefits should be taken away from everyone because all benefits are subject to manipulation and fraud by anyone.

If the school is accredited and the [online] student is taking the required number of credits and complying with whatever other rules of the Post-9/11 GI Bill program, there should be no difference in the benefits.
