MEDALS REVIEW DUE

It is about time someone evaluated/overhauled the broken-down medal process. I really hope that lawmakers look at all of the awards that have been given for valor and gallantry to see if these service members can have current medals upgraded.

I am sure if a full investigation of medals [were] given, you will find many that would qualify for the Medal of Honor.

UPDATE OUR RIFLES

Gotta love how the Army will spend millions on uniforms, berets and new dress uniforms, but when it comes to outfitting the soldier with an updated rifle for modern combat, it’s too difficult to change anything.

I understand — don’t fix what ain’t broke — but why do we update fighter jets constantly and not our personal weapons? ... I thought we were supposed to be the best-equipped force in the world?

HIP TO BE SQUARE

Just like everything else, the Army wants to jump on the bandwagon by trying to be “hip.” They implemented combatives to cash in on the popularity of mixed martial arts/Ultimate Fighting Championship. They did the same with NASCAR.

Think about it. They got into the Facebook, MySpace and I’m pretty sure Twitter, as well.

Yet a few years ago, they didn’t even think about going that route. It’s all a publicity stunt. I’m pretty sure that in a few short years we will see an all-Army reality show like “Survivor” or “Big Brother.”

ROBOTS IN BATTLE

The lack of human observation on the front lines would be devastating [if robots replaced soldiers]. Robots can’t conduct counterinsurgency operations. Robots can’t win hearts and minds. Robots can’t be programmed to be unpredictable, or take wild gambles and risks in the name of victory.

NCO RETOOLING

If one was to honor the NCO Corps, it would have to be rebuilt from the ground up. The task at hand is not going to be easy and would require a five- to 10-year requirement. One great idea would be the return of the skill-qualifier test. This would ensure technically and tactically proficient leaders in their prospective career fields.

Add to the fact it would eliminate bias and favoritism found in promotion boards. This would be the new foundation for the future.
