Fort Hood suspect

[Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey] did three news shows on Sunday morning. Same message: Concerned about a backlash against Muslim soldiers. “I’ve asked our Army leaders to be on the lookout for that. It would be a shame, as great a tragedy as this was, it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well. A diverse Army gives us strength. This speculation could heighten the backlash.” Either he really believes this nonsense or he caved to PC pressure. What he should have said was: “Thousands of my soldiers have been killed by Muslims the past few years, and not a single Muslim soldier in the Army has been harmed because of it. This matter of a ‘backlash’ is a nonstarter in my Army.” He should tell the media that he runs a disciplined Army, and not a motorcycle gang.

[Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan] still had an ID because the military is hurting for health care officials.

counter-IED task force

I understand it’s imperative to have equipment that improves survivability during an IED/UXO [improvised explosive device/ unexploded ordnance] detonation, however, what’s needed is additional troops and leadership that have the knowledge and experience to defeat IEDs before the detonation occurs. We, as a military, must think before the detonation, not after. We need to adjust assets to Operating Enduring Freedom in the form of explosive ordnance disposal and engineer forces with the right amount of soldiers, equipment, and know how.

Don’t we already have the Joint IED Defeat Organization (JIEDDO) in place that has responsibility for this mission? Unless I’m not getting it, this will be a redundant capability.

— EOD Officer

There is already an organization that has this charter. If it isn’t performing, fire the top leadership or disband it and start over. Adding another organization simply muddies the water.

Arlington Cemetery probe

Arlington needs more than a “probe.” It needs some employees who will work. When I was in D.C. a couple of months ago, I visited Arlington for the first time ever. What a shock! It is not all that pretty and kept up as TV portrays it. There were many headstones that were falling over or about to because of ground erosion.
