Get free music downloads this Thanksgiving
Active and retired military personnel can download a CD’s worth of free music this Thanksgiving courtesy of 13 popular recording artists — it’s their way of saying thanks for your service.
“CD for the Troops,” featuring songs by Billy Joel, Brooks and Dunn, Melissa Etheridge and Sarah McLachlan, among others, will be available for download beginning Saturday on the Army and Air Force Exchange Service Web site. All you need is a valid military ID card.
On Nov. 27, 200,000 hard copies will be doled out to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, at U.S. bases and military hospitals, and USO clubs.
Tunes featured on the CD include:
Billy Joel’s “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant”
Brooks and Dunn’s “Keep On Swinging”
Five for Fighting’s “100 Years”
Goo Goo Dolls’ “Feel the Silence”
Jewel’s “Hands”
Josh Groban’s “February Song”
Los Lonely Boys’ “Heaven”
Melissa Etheridge’s “Come To My Window”
Neville Brothers’ “Brothers”
Sarah McLachlan’s “Wintersong”
Lt. Dan Band’s “Sweet Home Chicago”
Montgomery Gentry’s “My Town”
The Fray’s “How to Save a Life”
The project was conceived by signer/songwriter John Ondrasik, who performs under the name Five for Fighting. “Music can be a powerful aid to the morale and mental well being of our military and their loved ones,” he said in a statement. “It is, in my opinion, the least we can do.”
