‘Grill sergeant’ takes on Food Network’s Bobby Flay
Posted : Wednesday Sep 23, 2009 15:58:18 EDT
Sgt. 1st Class Brad Turner, the chef known for singing his way through the Pentagon Channel’s “Grill Sergeants” cooking show, goes head to head and chicken to chicken tonight against chef Bobby Flay on the Food Network.
The episode of “Throwdown with Bobby Flay” was taped this summer at Fort Lee, Va., where Turner once taught at the Army Center of Excellence, Subsistence.
Turner, who thought he was being filmed for a Food Network special, was showing a class of soldiers his recipe for sunshine barbecue chicken when Flay drove up in a tactical vehicle and issued his throwdown.
Turner’s chicken and Flay’s challenger were judged in a blind taste test by Brig. Gen. Jesse R. Cross, Quartermaster Center and School commanding general, and Frances Daniel, owner of Mrs. Marshall's Carytown Café in Richmond.
Watch the show at 9 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, and again at 9 p.m. Pacific time, to find out who won.
