RAPID CITY, S.D. — As part of a major reorganization, the South Dakota National Guard’s 109th Engineer Battalion will be inactivated in a ceremony scheduled for Aug. 18 in Sturgis.
The unit becomes the 109th Regional Support Group in September.
Col. Tim Reisch, the 109th Engineer Group commander, has said that the new mission of the 109th will be to provide logistical support, rather than commanding and controlling engineer units.
The reorganization is part of the Army National Guard’s largest makeover since 1950.
