Brig. Gen. Dana Pittard will relinquish command of the Iraq Assistance Group during a ceremony Saturday morning in Baghdad.

He will hand to Brig. Gen. James Yarbrough the IAG mission of overseeing and supporting the hundreds of military transition teams training the Iraqi security forces.

The IAG falls under the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kan., where training for the transition teams takes place.

Pittard has commanded the IAG since July 2006 in Baqubah, north of Baghdad, while still serving as the division’s assistant division commander, a job he’s held since July 2005. He has also commanded the division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team in Kosovo.

He will take command of the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., this summer.

Yarbrough will continue to serve as the assistant division commander for operations when he takes over IAG.

Before moving to the 1st ID in 2006, Yarbrough was deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Infantry Center at Fort Benning, Ga.
