2nd Stryker Cav Regiment deploys
Posted : Thursday Aug 9, 2007 12:25:54 EDT
The 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment’s long-anticipated deployment to Iraq began Friday with the casing of regimental colors at Vilseck, Germany.
The 2nd SCR is U.S. Army Europe’s newest combat unit, having arrived at Vilseck a year ago from Fort Lewis, Wash., where it was flagged as the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division.
The unit was alerted for deployment this spring and is scheduled to serve in Iraq for 18 months.
The nearly 4,000-member unit last served in Iraq in 2005.
“I’ll venture to say you’ll face a fight as soon as you hit the ground,” said V Corps commander Lt. Gen. James E. Thurman at the deployment ceremony. “While many challenges lie ahead, none are insurmountable because of your outstanding training, leadership and dedication and devotion to duty.”
