Walk to commemorate Battle of the Bulge
Posted : Thursday Oct 25, 2007 16:44:19 EDT
The 30th annual memorial walk commemorating the Battle of the Bulge and the Siege of Bastogne is planned for Dec. 15 in Bastogne, Belgium, the Army announced in a news release.
This year’s walk, with a choice of three distances, will be concentrated northwest of the city, where the 82nd Airborne Division and 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment held the line against German forces in World War II.
Participants can trek the villages of Hemroulle, Champs and Longchamps as part of the Bastogne Historical Walk, which begins at 8 a.m. at the Centre Sportif “Porte de Tréve” and ends at the big festival tent in downtown Bastogne.
Each walker will receive a certificate from the city and a patch of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment, the release said. Pre-registration is mandatory and closes on Nov. 26.
U.S. military and civilians and NATO personnel in Germany must register through Ed Lapotsky at ed.germany@t-online.de.
In Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, register through Tom Larscheid at Barfjacks@hotmail.com.
