A ceremony to recognize the actions of valor of 52 soldiers from 3rd Special Forces Group was scheduled for Thursday at the unit’s headquarters at Fort Bragg, N.C.
The soldiers are being honored for their actions during operations in Afghanistan, according to an Army press release.
U.S. Army Special Operations Command commander Lt. Gen. Robert W. Wagner and the commanding general of U.S. Army Special Forces Command, Maj. Gen. Thomas R. Csrnko, will co-preside over the ceremony and present the awards.
They will recognize the soldiers with six Silver Star medals, eight Purple Hearts, 15 Bronze Stars and 23 Army Commendation Medals for valor, the release said.
The Silver Star is the Army’s third highest award for combat valor and is awarded for gallantry in action against an enemy of the United States during military operations
The unit recently completed a deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The award ceremony will take place at Meadows Memorial Parade Field at Fort Bragg at 3 p.m.
