18th MP Brigade starts 3rd rotation in Iraq
Posted : Tuesday Nov 6, 2007 11:03:46 EST
The 18th Military Police Brigade began its third rotation to Iraq by taking responsibility of the Iraqi police transitional team mission at Contingency Operating Base Victory near Baghdad.
The Mannheim, Germany-based brigade assumed command at a transfer-of-authority ceremony Oct. 29.
In a Multi-National Corps-Iraq press release, outgoing commander Col. Michael Galloucis, commander of the 89th Military Police Brigade told his successor, Col. Mark Spindler, that “much has been accomplished here, but there is still much to do.”
The 18th MP brigade’s deployment is its third in five years.
“The 18th is no stranger to this mission,” MNC-I deputy commander Maj. Gen. James Simmons said in the release. “They are battle hardened and ready to take on this mission here in Iraq.”
The 18th MP brigade will continue to provide command and control capabilities over the military police transition teams assigned to MNC-I.
The brigade brings approximately 100 soldiers to perform their mission in Iraq and commands more than 5,000 military police soldiers in theater.
