COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Colorado Springs police have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a soldier who served two tours in Iraq.
Police say they arrested Louis Edward Bressler on Wednesday night on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death of Spc. Kevin R. Shields.
Investigators have not said what led them to arrest the 24-year-old Bressler or what the motive may have been for Shields’ slaying.
Tira Bressler said her husband is also a soldier who served with Shields in Iraq and said he is innocent. She said he is being treated for post-traumatic disorder and taking medication for depression.
“My husband’s not violent,” she said. “My husband doesn’t have the heart kill somebody.”
A newspaper carrier found Shields’ body on a sidewalk early Saturday. Police say he had been shot several times.
The 24-year-old Shields was a native of Roscoe, Ill. He was a member of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 2nd Infantry Division based at Fort Carson.
