FORT BRAGG, N.C. — One hundred Fort Bragg paratroopers who were supposed to return Friday from Iraq instead will return early Saturday.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that the members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team were delayed in Iceland by a problem with de-icers on the plane’s engine.
The return ends the longest 82nd Airborne Division combat tour since World War II. It also marks the end of the two-week return of brigade members, who have been in Iraq since January 2007.
The brigade was among the first combat units deployed to Baghdad under President Bush’s troop surge last year.
