Soldiers whose names appear on the list and who have not yet attended the Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course are automatic selects for ANCOC and will be scheduled for schooling by Human Resources Command.
Promotions off the new list will be scheduled via data appearing with the monthly senior NCO sequence numbers. Sergeant first class promotions are expected to remain brisk at least through fall, with the Army projecting more than 7,700 for the fiscal year.
The selection board, in session from Jan. 29 to Feb. 21 at Human Resources Command-Indianapolis, reviewed the files of 30,812 soldiers and selected 8,621.
The overall select rate of 28 percent is slightly better than the 27.7 percent rate from the 2007 E-7 board, which recommended 8,416 soldiers for promotion.
The primary-zone select rate was 29 percent — 9,155 considered, 2,654 selected — while the rate for secondary zone candidates was 27.4 percent — 9,161 considered, 2,510 selected.
Soldiers have been sequenced within their military occupational specialty and will be promoted as requirements occur within the MOS.
Under Army policy, staff sergeants who accept promotion to sergeant first class must agree to serve on active duty for at least two years, even if they must extend or re-enlist to meet the service-remaining requirement.
Soldiers who do not want to be promoted must submit a written declination statement through command channels to their local personnel office no later than 30 days after the date of their Human Resources Command promotion orders.
