COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio Army National Guard says a private has died after a two-mile obstacle course over the weekend.

An Ohio National Guard spokesman says 23-year-old Joshua O’Bannon of Columbus collapsed before finishing a training exercise at a camp in Delaware on Sunday. He died at Riverside Memorial Hospital in Columbus early Monday.

The Guard does not know what caused his death.

Guard spokesman James Sims says the two-day training is supposed to get recruits ready for basic training.

O’Bannon played football at Robert Morris University near Pittsburgh. The university told students by e-mail on Monday of O’Bannon’s death. He was scheduled to attend his graduation next month.
