Board to consider Reserve promotions
Posted : Tuesday Apr 15, 2008 6:55:28 EDT
Qualified NCOs of the Individual Ready Reserve, Individual Mobilization Augmentee program and the Standby Reserve (active list) will be considered for promotion to the ranks of staff sergeant through sergeant major by a board that meets Aug. 6-15.
The board, which will meet at the Human Resources Command-St. Louis, also will screen master sergeants for enrollment in the non-resident Sergeants Major Course.
To qualify for consideration, soldiers must have been assigned to the IRR, IMA or Standby Reserve (active list) for at least 12 months, and who have not received a notification of eligibility for reserve retirement pay at age 60, and who have earned at least 27 retirement point in either year of the periods Feb. 1, 2006 through Jan. 31, 2007, or Feb. 1, 2007 through Jan. 31, 2008.
Soldiers who have received a notification of eligibility for reserve retired pay at age 60 must have earned at least 50 retirement points as of their previous retirement year.
Promotion candidates also must have a birth date not earlier than Feb. 6, 1951 (57 years and six months) when the board convenes, and an appropriate security clearance for their military occupational specialty.
The zones of consideration for each grade are:
Promotion to staff sergeant — sergeants with dates of rank of Aug. 6, 2006, or earlier, and who have completed the Warrior Leader Course.
Promotion to sergeant first class — staff sergeants with DORs of Aug. 6, 2006, or earlier, and who have credit for the Basic NCO course.
Promotion to master sergeant — sergeants first class with DORs of Aug. 6, 2006, or earlier, and who have credit for the Advanced NCO Course.
Promotion to sergeant major — master sergeants with DORs of Aug. 6, 2006, who have completed NCO education system courses through ANCOC.
About 60 days before the board convenes soldiers who are in a zone of consideration can review their official file online using the “My Record Portal” of the Human Resources Command.
