100 re-enlist for Reserve centennial
Posted : Tuesday Apr 22, 2008 9:39:00 EDT
One hundred Army Reserve soldiers will re-enlist at 10 a.m. Wednesday on the steps of the U.S. Capitol to mark the component’s 100th birthday.
Lt. Gen. Jack Stultz, chief of the Army Reserve, and Command Sgt. Maj. Leon Caffie, the top enlisted soldier in the component, will attend the event. Also scheduled to appear is Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund.
At 2:15 p.m., Stultz and Caffie will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery. A tree-planting and plaque dedication ceremony on cemetery grounds will follow.
These events, scheduled for the Reserve’s actual birthday, is part of a yearlong worldwide celebration that kicked off Jan. 18, Maj. Gen. Mari K. Eder, deputy chief of the Reserve, said earlier this year.
Other anniversary events are tied to dates such as Memorial Day and Independence Day, Eder said. The component also plans to incorporate into the celebration sections of the community that support Reserve soldiers, such as employers and community-based organizations.
